Union 1:64

UNION 1:64 is a biannual diecast event in San Antonio for collectors, sellers, swappers, and newcomers alike. I developed the event poster to elevate its identity and visibility in Central Texas, helping attract statewide vendors and firmly establish the show in the diecast community.

Illustrator/Graphic Designer: Richard Sanchez

What informed the work

The direction for Union 1:64 draws from early Hot Wheels graphics, vintage hot-rod and racing comics, and classic custom-kulture art, core references that shaped the series’ attitude and visual energy.

Piecing it together

Before the final mark took shape, it went through plenty of exploration, some hits, some misses. This outline pass shows how the pieces began to lock in.

The Final Mark

Issue No. 01

Hot Summer, Hot Wheels

Framed by the final mark, this poster captures the full intensity of the Union 1:64 summer show. Bold color, retro-driven typography, and a fast, illustrated attitude come together to deliver a piece that feels unmistakably Hot Wheels—loud, bright, and built for heat.

Issue No. 02

Faliday Spirit

The success of the summer issue led to a fall/winter re-imagining of the original poster. This iteration preserves its Hot Wheels-inspired attitude while shifting into muted red-ish, white, and blue layered over rich yellow to reflect the season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Sub-Event Design

A Show Within a Show

Union 1:64 spun up a “Kustom Diecast Showcase” inside their main event, a show within a show celebrating the builders, painters, and detail-obsessed collectors of 1:64 Hot Wheels. I carried the original poster style into this new activation, giving the showcase its own identity while keeping it tied to the Union 1:64 world.
